When children start in this room, they are considered “toddlers”. By the following September, they will be three years old and ready for Preschool! There are up to nine children in this room with two full time co-teachers and a part time assistant. This stage of development is an exciting time because children start to develop some independence skills and learn how to appropriately express the wide range of emotions of a young child. We see relationships between teachers and other children deepen. The teacher child ratio of 1:9 is a great benefit during this time as children learn self care skills (potty training, handwashing, dressing themselves). The daily routine is a simplified version of a preschool day with flexibility built in to meet the needs and interests of the children. When children prepare to transition to the next classroom, they do so with confidence and curiosity!
